Zaki-ur Rehman Lakhvi the terror mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai terror attack which led to the death of 166 people has received bail and according to latest from Press Trust of India this happened because the Pakistan government failed to file a plea challenge in the court on time. Chief of prosecution Chaudhry Azhar said “We are facing problems in getting the ATC’s order copy. I cannot say whether we will be able to file the appeal tomorrow. After going through the court’s order, we need time to prepare the petition.” It is also possible the other accused in the 26/11 terror attacks may also get bail and walk.
The timing of the bail was very confusing to many in India and across the world because Lakhvi received bail just two days after the Peshawar massacre of 132 children. But many believe the logic behind this act was to ensure the loyalty of the so called “Good Terrorists” who plan and wage terror attacks on India.
The lawyer of Zaki-ur Rehman Lakhvi meanwhile is filing a petition and is trying to expunge all the evidence which has been given to Pakistan Judicial Commission’s record a part of evidence in the 2008 Mumbai terror attack case. If this is successful then there could be a situation where it may not be legally possible to put Lakhvi on trail purely on technical grounds. A fresh case will have to filed against the 26/11 plotter and that would take more time.
