According to latest information from BBC New York web posting two Officers responding to a robbery call were shot in the Bronx late Monday night. The names of the two policemen has not been released to the public so far but one officer was shot was shot in the arm and lower back, and the other officer was shot in the chest and arm near East 184th Street and Tiebout Avenue in the Fordham section shortly after 10:30 p.m., officials said at an early morning news conference. The two men who got shot are in a critical but stable condition.
The unidentified officers were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital where they are in critical but stable condition, and are expected to recover, the NYPD said. The two suspects who shot and wounded the policemen are still at large and a massive man hunt is underway. Also police managed to recover a handgun which could have been possibly be used in the shooting.
After the shooting New York City Police Commissioner Bill Bratton while speaking to press said all efforts and resources are being used to bring the perpetrators to justice also it is possible one of the shooter may have been wounded when the police fired back. Already tension has been very high with weeks of protests by people in the city blaming the cops for being too aggressive and the ongoing dispute between the many police officers and the Mayor de Blasio.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said “as always, the city of New York and the NYPD will be with them through this challenge and as these officers recover.” Also city speaker Melissa Mark-Vivitero released a statement in which she said “Every day, New York’s police officers risk their lives keeping New Yorkers safe and we are very grateful for their service, dedication and commitment.” The last few weeks have not been very good for New York City police officers after two of their own NYPD officer Wenjian Liu whose funeral was just held yesterday officer Rafael Ramos who were shot and killed by Ismaaiyl Brinsley who also later committed suicide by shooting himself.
