Virgin Galactic Spaceship Crashes in California

A suborbital passenger spaceship being developed by Virgin Galactic Company which is owned by Richard Branson crashed during a test flight on Friday near the Mojave Air and Space Port in California, killing one pilot and seriously injuring the other as per Times of India. This accident would be seen by many the dangers of such plans which are capable of flying over our atmosphere. But in tweet the founder of Virgin Richard Bronson said “Space is hard – but worth it. We will persevere and move forward together.” He further twitted “Thoughts with all @virgingalactic & Scaled, thanks for all your messages of support. I’m flying to Mojave immediately to be with the team.” On route to the crash site Mr. Bronson also added “We’ve always known that the road to space is extremely difficult — and that every new transportation system has to deal with bad days early in their history.”

One pilot was killed in this accident but the second pilot survived after he successfully ejected. However he was badly injured from this crash. Both crew members were test pilots for Scaled Composites, the Northrop Gruman Corp subsidiary that designed and built the spacecraft for Virgin. In a news conference George Whitesides, chief executive of Virgin Galactic, said “”Space is hard, and today was a tough day. We are going to be supporting the investigation as we figure out what happened today, and we’re going to get through it.”

He further said “We believe we owe it to the folks who were flying these vehicles as well as the folks who have been working so hard on them, to understand this and to move forward, which is what we’ll do.” The Virgin Galactic flight had generated a lot of interest and many people had already booked seats, but this latest incident must have given people second thought. However problems are always faced when someone is pioneering a new technology.
