Gionee revealed its S series with the world’s slimmest phone yet. The new Gionee Elife S5.5 justifies its moniker by being merely 5.5 cm thick. The very fact makes this phone the slimmest Android phone in the world. The S series truly kicked off with a masterpiece because Elife S5.5 is nothing but a stunning work of art that you’d just want to show off. Extremely reflective back glass, lean body and a sharp design make this phone a treat for the eyes. Here are the first impressions of the Gionee Elife S5.5.
The framework of the phone comprises magnesium alloy that ensure you a strong and durable phone. While the glass façade and back panel might sound like a perfect arrangement for fingerprints, this phone surprisingly repels smudges and fingerprints. The fascia boasts a 5-inch Super AMOLED display. Viewing angles are great and so are the vivid colors. Both front and rear of the phone are protected by Gorilla Glass Class 3.
An octa-core 1.7 GHz MediaTek processor powers Elife S5.5. Gionee combines this with a 2 GB RAM. While everything about the phone sounds awesome, the UI – Gionee’s Amigo 2.0 – is a little disappointing. Saving factor in this case is the fluidity and response of the UI which is better than the UIs present on Elife E6 and Elife E7. The S5.5 still operates in Android 4.2.2 which in all hope, might get updated to 4.3 at the very least. Though a phone like that should get a KitKat update! Battery is rated at 2300mAh which is pretty decent for the “slimmest” phone. High power consumption has been a great issue for all slim phones.
Elife S5.5 sports a 13MP rear camera along with a 5MP front camera – both boasting 95 degree Ultra-wide angle. This is also the world’s first snapper of its kind. Low light imaging and wide shots become easier with this phone! However, the phone, especially the area around the cam heats up after taking a few shots. This could imply severe heating issues for the Elife S5.5 which not uncommon in octa-core phones.
The slimmest phone in the world also comes in one of the prettiest colors. While black, white, blue, pink and purple might not sound so extraordinary, the glass finish of the phone makes the phone look fairly extraordinary in every color.
The Gionee Elife S5.5 is priced at 22,999 INR but like most of the devices from the brand, the price is likely to come down once the handset hits the stores. Should that happen, the Elife S5.5 would stand right against another octa-core rocking opponent – the Micromax Canvas Knight A350! While the Canvas features an equally good camera and an amazing design, its poor battery life puts the Elife S5.5 ahead in the race. And if the KitKat OS is not your reason to buy a new android phone, the Gionee Elife S5.5 is an option that must be considered.
