NEW XOLO Q600 – ANOTHER ATTACKER IN THE BUDGET SEGMENT

Launched a little while ago, the older Xolo Q600 was the cheapest quad core android smartphone since it was first set out to the market. For the newer Xolo Q600, recently announced, 1GB of RAM and above average display are some of the points that can be counted against this device but then for a smartphone belonging to such a low-budget segment, these specs prove to be major bonus points. This review is an investigation on whether or not Xolo Q600 is complete value for money. Available at 7,499 INR, Xolo Q600 was accompanied by the launch of another budget Android smartphone from the brand – Xolo Q1200.

Considering the build quality of the phone it can be seen that the company has tried it best to make the smartphone look as premium as they could at this cost. While the earlier Xolo Q600 featured a chassis that was all plastic, the new Xolo Q600 looks all metal. An etched rear panel featuring a snapper on the top left corner makes the new Q600 look amazingly premium and classy. Straight and sharp edges complete the look. However, a completely rectangular design feels a little uncomfortable in the hands. Available in just a white color variant, the phone weighs about 115 grams which makes it rather light on the hand. Also, a 4.5 inch display makes it easy to reach the corners of the phone using one hand.

The new Xolo Q600 sports a qHD 540 x 960 pixel capacitive touch screen protected by Gorilla Glass 3. It is rather amazing to see how Xolo pulled off that feature at such a low cost. Images and text appear crisp. While the viewing angles are affected due to the not-full-HD display, the color accuracy of the phone is surprisingly good and vibrant.

Inbuilt memory of 4 GB is available out of which only 1.77 GB is available for the user. This makes it impossible for the user to operate this phone without a microSD card. Expandable memory storage is up to 64 GB.

A rear camera of 5MP with autofocus performs fine in daylight. However, low light images come out to be a little noisy. The front snapper is a VGA which does not deliver very best of imaging when it comes to video calling.

Powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor coupled to 1 GB of RAM, the new Xolo Q600 is faster than its predecessor. While the older cousin offered smooth transition in app, major lag could be seen while gaming and browsing. The new Xolo Q600 is expected to be lag free. The smartphone operates on Android 4.4.2 KitKat out-of-the-box which is quite impressive. Even the Xolo Q1200 doesn’t come with that updated software.

Both the Xolo Q600 and the Xolo Q1200 are the brand’s serious attempt to provide the buyers with budget smartphones having powerful performance and great specs. While there have been no official announcements about the phone, the new Xolo Q600 can be seen listed on e-commerce websites.
