Hollywood To Bollywood

    Hollywood To Bollywood

Bollywood is known for many things like its song and dance routine, but one thing it is famous for its ability to steal movie ideas from Hollywood films. Here is a list of Hindi films inspired from Hollywood. It seems that we just do not have the ability to come with an original idea.
    1.       Players
This film starring Abhishek Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor and Bipasha Basu was inspired by the Hollywood remake of the Italian Job which is classic heist movie. This film was so poorly made that it has received iconic status for bad films.
    2.       Agent Vinod
This film was first made in 1977 about a handsome and daring Indian secret agent based on the character of James Bond. But this film was again remade in 2012 starring Saif Ali Khan and this time the writer and director managed to rip the story from Sum of all fears based on the Tom Clancy thrillers and a dash of Mission Impossible, Bilderberg Group which consist of former presidents and influential business men who control the world economy   and add dash of your song and dance and Bollywood Masala, Bang you got yourself a movie.
    3.       Salaam Namaste
The director of this film said he was not trying to remake 9 months a romantic comedy starring Hugh Grant and Julianne Moore but it just came out like that. It is like when a wife walks into the bedroom and finds her husband in bed with another woman and the only justification the Husband can give is by saying that they both fell down and their cloths came off. If the director thought that by shooting the film in a foreign location people would notice.
    4.       Kyon ki mai Jhoot Nahi Bolta
This film made by David Dhawan was a riff off from the Hollywood film Lair Lair, starring the very funny Jim Carry. The plot remains the same with a touch of Bollywood secret souse. The over acting of Govinda is worth mentioning.
    5.       God Tussi Great Ho
Another riff off from a Jim Carry comedy, Bruce Almighty. This film starring Salman Khan and why in the gods name Amitabh Bachchan ever agreed to star in this film shall remain a mystery. Poor acting and a total waste of time and money is what we can say about this film.
    6.       Sarkar and
Sarkar was directed by Ram Gopal Verma a director who have made several good films like Satya and Company.  The movie was commercially successful and a total copy of the God Father part 1, a film by Francis Ford Coppola.
    7.       Rajneeti
This film was directed by the critically acclaimed director Prakash Jha, who made movies like Ganga Jal. Prakesh Jha decided to make his film with the inspiration from Mahabharata but the fact of the matter was it was a total riff off from God Father Part 1 and Part 2. The only similarity this film had with that great epic Mahabharata was Kunti forgoing her son Karna i.e. Ajay Devgun and in the last scene Ranbeer Kapoor who plays the role of Arjuna who shoots Ajay’s character. And in the mix of things Nana Pateker playing Krishna or Consigliere and Manoj Bhajpai i.e. Duryodhana. The rest of the plot and some scene, all copy.
    8.       Chachi 420
Kamal Hasan is no doubt a great actor, but what possessed him to remake this great comedy film Mrs Doubtfire is an answer everyone is waiting. Not that his acting was poor or the film was not funny, it just that we have all come to expect a level of originality from him.
    9.       Mahesh Bhatt and Vishesh Films
Mahesh Bhatt has made some truly original films back in the day like Arth and Saraansh but over the years this director and producer has managed to make lots of films inspired from Hollywood. The list is very long so we will mention few. Murder – Unfaithful, Raaz- What lies Beneath and ect.
    10.   Satte Pe Satta
This film inspired from the great Hollywood Musical Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. This remake in Hindi was certainly very entertaining with our very own twist and turn but clearly the backbone of the film was the original plot.
    11.   Kaante:
This film was inspired by the Quentin Taranteno cult hit Reservoir Dogs. This film directed by Sanjay Gupta should be banned for its poor script and horrible direction. Again waste of time and why Amitabh Bachchan.
    12.   Josh
Again a shameless riff off of a Hollywood classic West Side Story. Please do not watch this film ever.
    13.   Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega f
No remorse for stealing the entire plot from while you were sleeping which is regarded as one of the best romantic comedies of all time. Wow.
    14.   Koi… Mil Gaya
This film was a super hit but again the creative force of Rakesh Roshan could not help but get sublimely inspired by E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial a Sci Fi film loved by millions of people all over the world.
    15.   tara ram pumpum
This film stars Saif Ali Khan and the beautiful Rani Mukerjee in a very poor remake of Life is beautiful a film which deals with the delicate topic of Holocaust and the true story of former world heavy weight boxing champion James J. Braddock aka the Cinderella Man. How self deprived the writer and director has to be to copy such films and then make a total mess of it.
The list is endless but we will try to give names of few more films as honorable mentions and next time if you ever watch any of these film, please say thank you to the original writers and directors.
    Honorable mentions
    1.    Dhoom part 1-The Fast and the Furious (2001) &Ocean’s Eleven (2001)
    2.    Hum Tum -When Harry Met Sally a great romantic comedy of all time
    3.    Qayamat: The Rock starring Sean Connery and Nicolas Cage. Please never ever watch the Hindi version.
    4.    Chor Machaaye Shor : Blue Streak. Bobby Deol poor attempt to anything
    5.     Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994) The Hard Way (1991). They only waited for 3 years.
    6.    Heyy Babyy copy of Three Men and a Baby made in 1987. Wow this long to make a remake. The producers must have thought we have poor memory, which is why the long wait.
    7.    Salaam-e-Ishq an ode to Love Actually.
    8.    Ghulam a salute to On the Waterfront. Aamir Khan is a great actor but he is no Brando
    9.    Bichhoo a scream fest of Rani Mukharjee and a bad copy of Léon
    10.  Akele Hum Akele Tum starring Aamir Khan who is known for originality made a hash out of   Kramer vs. Kramer

Balaji descends from an intellectual family from South India which now resides in the capital of the largest democracy of the world, Delhi. A semi-bald-pot-bellied personality who unintentionally resembles to the younger version of Ed Harris. He has explored various business verticals in order to understand what he wants from his life. Finally, not sure whether he has found it –verbicide- discovered it, he has resorted to writing literary pieces for UtheStory. Today, the organization sees him as the most experienced person – in India experienced means who has come off age- among all the other UTSians. His grasp on political arena is firm, but movies is his interest area and writing on sports is what he loves to do. That is the only reason, the organization considers him as the ‘Experienced’. He has been writing for Digit Bazar and Digit How for some time and has created a long list of aficionados by writing sardonic and literary article pieces. Balaji loves to give ideas for the graphics of the article that he writes –depends if that is accepted or rejected by the Design team- but he loves it, truly. His article reflects the true picture of the situation that he tries to cover and is very neutral to the topic. Being neutral does not mean he is dolesome by nature. He is very passionate and jovial human creature who at times enlightens people around him with his excellent sense of humor which is the amalgam of south and north India.
